Expectations were high for a Franchise that has been in the toilet for almost two decades. With the hiring of new GM/Coach VeXXuM, the Skins had many prognosticators choosing them to be one of the NFC's top teams. There was a lot to like about this team. Tons of talent on the defensive side of the ball, but the question mark was the offense. Would the Redskins live up to the hype?

After a week 1 loss to the Giants (VeXXuM forgot to show up to the game lol! ) the Redskins then hit the ground running, literally. Two HUGE stories headlined the Redskins in week 2. The Redskins decided it was in their best interest to trade Barry Cofield their star nose tackle for struggling Broncos QB Kyle Orton. The other was to start this guy... Enter: ROY HELU. The Redskins 3rd round pick out of Nebraska suprised everyone by getting the start in week 2. And he did not dissapoint. Helu had 173 yards and a couple TD's to lead the Skins to their first win of the 2011 season. 34-3 over the Cardinals. A couple big time wins against the Cowboys and Rams, and the Skins were on a roll. After coming back from the bye, the Skins offense put on a show with a 49-27 win over division rival, the Eagles. A controversial tie against the Panthers in week 7 would serve as a big moment later down the road for the Redskins. 3 straight blowouts had the Redskins sitting pretty at 7-1-1. 2 Straight losses in week 8 and 9 would have the Skins questioning everything. Were they about to have a massive collapse? The Skins had to rebound and they did reeling off 5 straight wins and a birth into the playoffs.

The Redskins had a lot to be happy about after the conclusion of the regular season. Roy Helu finished the season with a league high 2569 rushing yards to go along with 28 touchdowns. Helu is on the ballot for many season awards including MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, Best RB, Rookie of the Year, and Offensive Rookie of the Year. He has a strong case to win all of those. The Redskins defense was great all year finishing the season 5th in points against, and 4th in rushing defense. Kyle Orton finished the season 3rd in QB Rating and 2nd best completion percentage. The dominating duo of Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan posted a combined 18 sacks. Kerrigan could be the front runner for rookie defensive player of the year. London Fletcher was great even at age 37. He lead the Skins in tackles and was 3rd in the league in tackles for loss. DeAngelo Hall intercepted 8 passes on the season which is a career high for him.
